Humanity and philanthropy through Scouting

Hello everyone! First of all I want to thank you for taking the time to read about our story.

OUR STORY:

My name is Deni, and I'm the 2nd-in-command of the Scout Detachment "CROA", based in the City of Živinice, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our city had a long and proud history of supporting the Scouts ever since the 1960s, when it formed the Scouting Detachment "Jasen", however the unit was dissolved during the 1992-1995 war, and nobody bothered to pick up the pieces after it ended. The Commander, Edin, and myself decided that giving young people and children in the city a chance to get better acquainted with nature is absolutely necessary, and thus we founded the Detachment on February 23rd, 2018.

Our main goal is to help youth develop social skills, learn to respect and get familiar with nature, and to further develop a sense of patriotism and love for country. So far we have organized a dozen hikes to surrounding mountaintops, topographical, radio-communication, search-and-rescue and first aid educations, as well as a Basic Scout Personnel Training Course, held by experienced instructors.

We have also implemented a number of projects that promote the inclusion of marginalized groups into normal society. Our most recent project of the type has been a project to support people with Down's syndrome and Autism.

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS, AND HOW YOU CAN HELP US:

With 2020 coming up fast, and Bosnia expecting a cold winter, most of our field activities are suspended until spring. However, we want to use the time to prepare for the next season of outdoor educations, hikes, and speleological adventures.

Other than being a pillar of recreation and education for youth in our city, we also perform our part in the Civil Defense of our City, responding in natural disasters, humanitarian crises and taking part in search and rescue operations.

However, we are a new detachment, and our current state leaves much to be desired. Our headquarters is in disarray, we only have a handful of uniforms for our Youth Troop and we are missing a huge chunk of topographical, first aid and radio-communication equipment.

In just 10 months our Scout Detachment grew from the founding team of 6 people to a Detachment of 30+ young Scouts and volunteers, routinely attracting the attention of dozens of their peers and younger children who want to learn more about their surroundings.

Every contribution we receive helps our Detachment grow and provide an even better education and atmosphere for our peers and the city's youngest generation.
