Help Burmese people near the border with Thailand who live in poverty, due to the civil war.

Who are we helping?

Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) has a long history of political & military conflicts.

The last coup dates back to February 2021, again resulting in a lot of violence: https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2023/country-chapters/myanmar.

As a result, many people (about 140 000) have to survive in difficult conditions.

I travel regularly to Mae Sot, a small city in Thailand on the border with Myanmar.

What is the problem?

The border between Thailand & Myanmar is a river. Many Burmese refugees cross the river, in order to escape from civil war and poverty.

However, in Thailand they need to build a new life and they try to improve their living conditions, an incredibly difficult challenge. Often, they end up in miserable housing, working in the fields for 3 euro/day, not entitled to medical care, their children not being able to go to school, getting into trouble with local authorities, etc.

What is my project all about?

With my project I help people who are currently struggling.

With the resources I have, I support them in terms of food and hygiene, medical needs.I also try to contribute to education for the children who are not entitled to it in Thailand.

What do I do with the donations collected ?

With the money I collect:

  • I offer support packages (rice, oil, soap, toothpaste and laundry detergent) to those who are struggling to make ends meet.
  • I take people without health insurance to the local hospital when they need medical attention and help them to buy medication.
  • I support a local school with school supplies and gasoline to pick up the children in the morning, and to bring them home after school. In addition, I also purchase fruit that is distributed to the children so that they obtain a minimum amount of vitamins and minerals.

All contributions go 100% to those in need.

Who am I ?

My name is Geert De Groof and I have been living in Thailand for more than 4 years. My life is a combination of living with my wife in Bangkok and setting up projects that support people who are struggling.

I find myself blessed with life and the opportunities I have received. Some of those opportunities I created myself. But I was lucky by birth: I have never experienced hunger, disease, discrimination, etc. in my life.

I set up projects to help people who are less fortunate in life. During my travels I see people who need to survive in very difficult circumstances. For those who are left to their fate by just about everyone, I dedicate myself gladly and with passion.

I cannot create major system changes, but I believe (and see!) that many small things also help people to move forward, and find a way out of poverty.

How can you help me?

By donating you help me to continue the support for this people in need.

If you are in the neigbourhood of Thailand you also can donate usefull things as clothes, sustainable food, medicines, etc.

You also can join me to the border if you want to see the situation yourself and contribute your help as a volunteer togetether with me.
