My husband and I have been self employed for most of our lives, earned an honest living and never claimed any benefits. Due to being self employed, age and a number of other issues means we dont fit the "norm" and so we have repeatedly been refused a mortgage. This is despite the fact that our rents, council tax and heating has cost about £1500 per month, leaving very little for us to save. WE KNOW WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES IN THIS SITUATON!!! We would like to buy a farm building, piece of land, old barn etc with land that could be used to start a small community for other people in this situation. We have some funds oursleves but are looking for assitance to get us off the ground. The idea goes beyond simple living accomadation but also a place where skills can be shared, the envornment can be looked after and local areas benefit. Posssibly like a small Totnes project.   If we can get this business model off the ground it could be used as a model for other people and create awareness that many people are worried about getting on the property ladder even at age 50!

Believe me we have tried other ideas for funding but everywhere the door gets shut in our face. We approached councils but generally they are not interested. if we can get this project off the ground we can show people that they too can escape the rat race, not conform and live in a better environment. This about turning the conventional world upside down and taking a new approach. Please just donate a pound, lets stick it to the man and show them that there can actually be a world where we can do it all ourselves!!!

Really hppe there are people like us out there.
