Historical sword fighting club

Hello there! If you've seen this site that means that you know what HEMA is. In case you don't it stands for Historical European martial arts. So we are the School for historical European martial arts "Ars Gladiatoria" Zagreb. We've been active since 2008. but have started to really spread the joy of swords at the beginning of 2014.

 

What now? You are talking about knights and stuff right?

Nope! It's real sword fighting using blunt weapons and modern protection based on various treaties from the middle ages. It's a sport and a martial art.

 

What is there to learn? European swords are used like clubs anyway.

Nope again! The media generally shows European sword fighting in a really silly manner where the fighters just hit each other in the sword (not the face) multiple times for no apparent reason. Sure it adds to the drama, but we don't care. We want real fights or at least fights that seem believable!   Ok fine. Let's say it's an "art".

 

Why should I help you?

Because there isn't a person on the planet that didn't, at some point, pick up a stick and started swinging it around like a sword. Why not spread the joy of swinging stuff around in a more mature manner.  

 

Fair enough. But what do I get from this?

The knowledge that you helped out a strugling art get more popular. Imagine watching the ball game only to switch to another channel where a competition is being held with long swords, one handed swords, daggers, sabres etc. And of course, if you are in the neighbourhood we would gladly teach you what we know.  

 

Awww, that's nice of you. So where does the money go anyway?

The money will mostly go on buying new club gear i.e. not our personal stuff. Just new protection such as fencing masks and gloves. Also new waster swords (wooden or plastic) or even metal swords.

 

 

Wait a minute, metal swords are probably for your enjoyment, not for beginners!

We do like metal, but we also know some other group of people that like metal swords but some can't afford them, our students. Our students practice hard with much devotion even though most of them are still studying at the university and trying to make ends meet. We would like to have the option of giving them a metal sword in order to continue their training and enjoyment.  

 

You guys are alright. *proceed to shower us with money*
