£520.00raised of £400.00 goal goal
I’m a seemingly ordinary 20 year old girl from England, studying a degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare. I recently went on a very exciting venture to South Africa with my university course, where we worked on a reserve where African White Rhino were present. Unfortunately there’s a constant battle against poachers who kill White Rhino for their horn, supplying the black market in Asia. Over the last month more than 300 White Rhino have been poached in South Africa; the species will be gone in less than five years if this continues.
The staff on the reserve had an overwhelming amount of passion for protecting the White Rhino, and despite the repeated dangers they face from the poachers, continue to work around the clock doing the best they can to protect them.
My visit to Africa got me thinking. Though I am in England and I can’t directly guard the Rhino, I want to help. So I set myself a challenge; this coming summer, starting from June the 1st, I aim to walk at least 50km per week in aid of raising money for a Rhino Protection unit at the reserve I worked at. The challenge runs for three months, up until September 1st (that’s at least 600km in three months!). Absolutely every single penny raised goes to the reserve I worked at. I’m hoping people will be inspired by what I am trying to achieve, and support me in my challenge. Wish me luck!
