Hello and good day.
My name is Lisa and I want to raise awareness about mental health. Especially mental health concerning the young black female youth of South Africa. Hopefully one day take High on Life worldwide and make an even bigger impact.
A person's mental state is extremely important as it always has been.
I wish someone had told me that before I hit my early twenties.
I myself have dealt with mental health problems in the past.
Suicidal thoughts. Depression. Anxiety. Anger issues. Alcohol abuse. Self-sabotage. Bullying. Emotional and Physical abuse. All of which contributes to your mental state. And as much as I don't blame the people who have done me "wrong" in the past. (Because as humans we tend to reflect on others what we are currently going through in life.) I still want to make some sort of a difference. I strongly believe in the "Start small end BIG" mindset.
Being adopted and knowing that from a young age didn't make feeling loved and wanted any easier for me. Growing up and getting older it got worse. Not having someone to talk to or ignoring the situation at hand at the time made it even worse. Seeing a therapist isn't an option for some people out there, and it might not be an option for whoever is reading this. I get it. We need someone to talk to. We need someone who understands. We need something to make us cope or forget about what's going on around us. But without it having to harm us. Without us feeling vulnerable and without us feeling judged.
Look I can go on and on about how sad my life was up until this point. And I can try and make it seem like this is easy. It's not. But I want to help. And if I can't help I want to give hope and if I can't give hope I WANT TO TRY.
So here goes :
High on Life is an idea. An idea of a 23 year old woman who now, after 5 years of trying to find out what her purpose is finally got a message from God/Spirit (whichever you believe in). I 110% believe I am here to make a change. High on Life aims to focus on mental health and ways in which you can deal with everyday challenges. I personally know that as a woman that might seem impossible to do at times due to the constant pressure from others to look your best and perform your best as soon as you step out the house. We also aim to educate people on the dangers of mental health if not treated the right way by the individual themselves. At High on Life we aim to imprint the belief that the only person who knows you better than you is YOU!
Why I need your help :
I want to start a podcast and reach an audience consisting of working class women as well as students driving to campus with their mothers or young mothers feeling overwhelmed by life and its challenges.
I would also love to reach an audience of men who might want to learn more about their female partner.
I would like to reach the LGBTQI community, those individuals who feel left out and completely misunderstood.
What I'm trying to say is I would like to reach a much bigger audience.
I would like to buy a branded gazebo combo which I plan to have set up at events all over South Africa and raise awareness wherever I can and wherever is needed.
I would like to get a Medical Marijuana expert on board. From whom I would like to learn even more about medical marijuana practices and use medical marijuana as healing.
Now I know consuming or smoking marijuana won't make it all go away. And that's not what we are trying to do here. High on Life is a space to come to when you want to let go of life a little. Understand that what you're going through is not a reason to end anything but rather to keep going.
I would like to host social events in which women of color can come together and speak on mental health from their perspective.
That all being said, Thank you for taking the time to read through my ideas.
Sending positivity your way and hoping you have a lovely start and end to your day.
Be You. For You.
