My name is Hannah and I’m currently in my second year at Leeds Trinity University training to be a primary school teacher. My friend and I have decided to participate in a childcare volunteering programme for 2 weeks in Busua in Ghana starting in June through Mighty Roar. As a volunteer I will become a big sister to the children, working alongside local staff to assist with teaching and caring for the children that attend everyday. I will be involved with the operational running of the day care centre where I can give extra support and attention as well as one-to-one time that so many children are deprived of. On average there are now 52 children per class (aged 1 - 11), meaning the facilities and care provided continue to suffer and in some circumstances are actually getting worse. Therefore these children will benefit from any support and care I can give them. The people in charge of the children have little to no training and are expected to care for and teach this wide age range. There are so many demands on the staff that they often find in very difficult to cope. Even though this will be an amazing opportunity and experience for me as a person, it will make an even bigger difference to these children’s lives. I will be partaking in fundraising events and tasks to help raise money and would really appreciate it if you could give me any money to contribute and help me with my journey. Money is very limited and they do not have enough to supply to the children's needs. Any money that is left over will be put towards me providing extra resources for the children to improve their learning even further. Thank you☺️
