Hi everyone. Thank you even for clicking on this page! It really means a lot that someone took an interest, even if you decide not to donate. (Hopefully you will!)
To give you the background story: I created this fundraiser for my best friend who is in need.
His name is Borys and I have known him for quite a few years now. I truly think I should be doing anything I can to help to get him out of a situation that it is very difficult and is affecting him in many aspects... Thus, here I am! This was my idea and I hope it will work.
My Friend's story (or "Why is this happening..")
Borys is 26 years old and he is the one I am trying to help. In a bad luck order:
- He has an auto-immune liver disease, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis that he needs to receive daily medication for and soon again run liver tests and biopsies;
- he has no close relatives to ask for support, whether that being financial or even just social;
- he had been working on all sorts of jobs for more than 8 years in London but recently he had to relocate to a smaller city in Ireland (to minimise his living expenses) and look for a job again.
- all the above have resulted in a debt that now haunts him, litteraly as well... (around £10K)
To add to this all and quote what he once said in a vulnerable moment: “Since I was 17 and PSC was diagnosed, my life has been running downwards...” I guess you can imagine what it is like for a teenager to hear this news and run in and out of hospitals for a long time, without having a safe family bubble at that time or any economical support..
To sum up, If he doesn’t manage to sort out this situation soon, I’m afraid he will have nothing to look for in the near future and to be honest I’m mostly worried about the impact this will have on his health, both physical and mental.
This is where you all come in!
On your side now:
My idea is that the amount I’m trying to raise will cover his living expenses and medications for some time. This means that around £7K will go to his rent and housing obligations for sometime, £10K will help him get rid of that debt's burden and everything else can help him deal with all the medical expenses and unexpected situations.
This will allow him to start over and rewrite his story...
If this works, hopefully he will not have this feeling of being helpless and unable to change anything, for at least some time which is the worst thing I guess in moments like this.
In this case, what I would say to you is that any funding would be remarkable, even if it is £1!
If you could donate the amount of even one drink that you would spend in a pub that would be even more amazing!!
I have read quite a few reviews before I created this project on GoGetFunding. It is a safe option and plus all transactions are handled via paypal, which I believe most of us do trust.
The funds will go directly to my friend’s account once the project ends and if we don’t make it to the target, at least he will still be able to use whatever was raised.
Why should I donate for your friend?
I would be surprised if someone actually didn’t ask that question when reading about this campaign.
There is no specific answer, it is on you to decide this. This is my effort to help a friend in trouble to overcome situations that mostly seem to have chosen him, rather than him chasing them. After all, this could be me, you, your friend, your child, your parent, your neighbour.
If it makes it easier for you, in a more rationalised way, it is because it is a person that it is socially “worth” it, having a second chance to prove his “worth”. Also, because you have the chance to help someone with an amount that (I hope!) will not negatively affect you!
In a era that we are all connected (Six Degrees of Separation after all!), supporting solutions as a whole by working together, seems to be a feasible answer to most problems.
Finally & on My side:
I hope that those of you who personally know me understand that this is something I would only seriously do. For those of you who don't, I can only hope that you trust me can put your faith in me and trust my cause.
I will donate of course as much as I can. On the other hand, as an extra motivation for you, for me and whoever else might be reading this page (as a tradition in fundraisers), if we reach the goal:
- I will Quit smoking
- I will commit to fulfil all the rewards I will add in the next days! (I hope you will find them worthwhile)
Kindest Regards and Big Big Thank You's,
