Help Yuniati With Her Long Term Medical Expenses

Help us raise $200,000 to cover Yuniati's expenses required for her safe return back to her family via an air ambulance, as well as the financial support for her and her family on a potentially long and arduous road to recovery.

For more than two years, Yuniati has selflessly served as a foreign domestic helper to our grandmother. She has poured her heart and soul into caring for our grandmother since a fall that fractured her hip bone several years ago, limiting her mobility. However, Yuniati now faces her own daunting battle.

Unbeknownst to Yuniati, a silent threat lurked within her body. Two days before the festive celebration of Eid, on the 8th of April 2024, she was rushed to the hospital when she fainted and became unresponsive. Medical scans revealed the devastating truth: Yuniati has been living with an undiagnosed brain aneurysm in a critical part of her brain. Tragically, this aneurysm ruptured, plunging her into a fight for her life. She went through 3 critical procedures to drain the blood flooding her brain, stem the bleeding, and to remove a blockage that subsequently occurred. She is now in the Intensive Care Unit where till now, she lies unconscious.

As if this medical crisis wasn't daunting enough, further complications arose during her hospitalization. Doctors discovered an underlying heart condition, compounding the severity of her situation. For that, she is undergoing a long-term treatment of antibiotics to help treat her heart infection.

Her family back in Indonesia has been in close contact throughout with ours. We have been providing updates and including them in the meetings with the doctors. It was heart-wrenching having to break the news to them the night before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a day which is usually filled with celebration and joy.

With Yuniati's deteriorated brain condition and physical health, doctors have said that she will be unable to work or live independently. She will need medical interventions and 24/7 care for her daily needs, possibly for the rest of her life.

Yuniati’s current medical expenses are projected to cost about $200,000. As she is a foreigner, she cannot receive any subsidy for her treatment. Yuniati’s insurance only covers $60,000 for her hospital fees, and $10,000 for her repatriation. Although we have supplemented the insurance payout by using our own money, our bigger worries are for her ongoing medical expenses and the financial stress this puts on her family back home once she is repatriated.
