We are asking for these investments in order to have mobility, gas, tent setup, websites, tables, and marketing distribution. We want to mail local farmers in the Atlanta, GA area. Our results of the project will be posted on our future website and Facebook Page. This is a four year project to help reduce the food deserts and food insecurity.
We are HLG and We Keep it Fresh, or (Fresh) is our not for profit business that sells farm fresh produce at an affordable price. We are focused on the Atlanta, Georgia area. It will serve as a mobile farmers market to sell farm fresh goods to people on weekends. Our produce will come from local farmers that have excess stock that needs to be sold and from grocery stores that are willing to donate extra food to help local shelters.
A family is the greatest collective unit. Managing gas on the weekly basis to go from point A to point B is a chore in itself. Making sure family priorities are taken care of has to be planned carefully to maintain a strong quality of life for all members. In this economy, going to the grocery store adds an additional challenge. Most people do not have access to food within mile of their neighborhood area, which are food deserts, or suffer from food insecurity, which is having access to the grocery store, but not being able to afford certain products. In Georgia, there are 2 million Georgians living near food deserts. Atlanta ranks fifth for food insecurity (starving for nutrition). These two situations can have many consequences like longer commutes traveling back and forth from home to the grocery store, wear and tear on cars and being priced out of nutritional food that is good for the soul.
Selling produce is important for farmers too. Being a farmer is hard work and their time needs to be compensated. In an effort to increase profitability for local farmers, if they have excess produce that needs to be sold, we will help to sell for them in order for it to be profitable. If there is food that we do not sell or expire, we will send it to local shelters around the Clayton and Fulton County areas. We will work with those farmers to make sure a market price is met.
Projects take time and effort. We are asking for investment in order to cover the operating costs of mobility, gas, tent setup, websites, tables, and marketing distribution. The following costs are itemized as follows:
Items | Cost | Reason |
Tent | $200 | A durable tent will help us provide services throughout all seasons. |
Laptops (2) | $1,200 | Laptops help to provide efficiencies to help us take care of projects. |
Pick Up Truck | $3,000 | We want a solid truck to travel distances in order to pick up the vegetables. We will be using our personal vehicles also. |
1 Tablet | $150 | If people are not able to pay with cash, we want to provide credit or debit options. |
Marketing | $1,000 | Marketing takes time and money. We will add our personal funds too. |
On Going Operating Costs/Contingency | $1,450 | Things do happen. We just want to have extra money to take care of emergencies. |
Registration | $500 | We want to take care of the costs of being incorporated and business costs. |
Total | $7,500 |
We want to mail local farmers in the Atlanta, GA area for involvement. Our results of the project will be posted on our future website and Facebook Page. This is a four year project to help reduce the food deserts.
