As I traveled back to our motherland (LAOS) for a short vacation, upon arrival it turned into a “DEPRESSION.”I personally witness and observed the poverty stricken country and lack of development in the rural area. The most devastating factor was this is the same village my parents [and many of us] was born and raised prior to migrating to the U.S.
However, there was a deeper disappointment when I visited the local Kindergarten and Elementary School. The place was in shambles with lack of roofing and side walls. The positive news was one building appeared new and after asking some questions, it was supported by JICA several years ago. However, the building for the other student was is dire shape. Therefore, we talked with the school administrator and the local authorities to see how we can not only help with upgrading or replacing the building, but simple educational materials like paper, pencils, and textbooks.
The students are not provided with any of the educational materials and its up to their family to provide it.However, these are family whom make a living in outdated farming techniques where the average daily income would be less than $2 a day. Education materials and etc. was not important as feeding the family for the day.
So, here I am after consulting with the local educators and authorities, to help re-build and upgrade the educational institution of Ban Muangsen, Muang Khong Island, Champassak Province where most of our family and friends parents were born and raised to raise fund to help the school. It has been an extraordinary step for the local authority to approve for us to help re-build the school.
