I have decided to become a watchmaker from complete beginner level. I'm raising money for workshop tools, books, video blog channel, certificates and tuition fee for apprentices training or watchmaking school.
New beginning
I have turned 30's and decided to think through my life, to start an adventure, to spend no more time in the office. Get real satisfaction from my job. So I've decided to become a watchmaker from complete beginner level. Unfortunately, I cannot gather sufficient funds on my own that's why I'm asking you for help.
Why watchmaking?
Well, I looked for many opportunities and found watchmaking a noble profession that suits my character best. It requires both creative and technical skills and allows to take a break from world getting crazy around. The art of horology, which is clocks and watches making, is something I want to dedicate myself.
The plan
Get knowledge from books and buy basic workshop equipment.
Cost: Around 6000 GBP for the basic workshop tools, broken clocks and watches to train and the literature.
Enrol into courses available on distance:
First, a course on fine watchmaking from swiss based Foundation High Horology:
https://www.hautehorlogerie.org/en/trainings/fhh-academy/train/
Cost: Around 290 GBP
Then Technician grade course from British Horological Institute:
http://bhi.co.uk/training-education/dlc/
Cost: Around 1000 GBP including kits and exam
If I gather sufficient amount I'd like to participate in The British School of Watchmaking WOSTEP 1800 hours program:
http://www.britishschoolofwatchmaking.co.uk/courses/
Cost: Around 12000 GBP with tools
In the meantime, I will look for the tutor to start my apprentice training.
Also, I'm going to try to find a job vacancy with training in the industry.
Running entertaining Youtube channel about watchmaking and watches collecting.
