Help the children in Oporoma

My name is S D Randle from the United States. I am a Stact foundation volunteer and I will be visiting Uganda and Nigeria to help those in need.

This project is focused on assisting Parents and Children whose houses and source of livelihood has been erased by natural disaster in the Southern Part of Nigeria. Oporoma is a community in Southern Ijaw local government area in Bayelsa that has always endured flooding. This year, the story is different and the damage is worse. Two of our trained volunteers have traveled to the region to see the extent of the damage and it was worse than we have imagined.

The community of Oporoma is surrounded by The Brass, which is part of the Nun River, also part of Niger River. They need help from the rest of the country and the world. It is time to show love to this people and let them know that they are not alone.

Here is a break down of how your donations will be used:

Provide Food

Seeing that some of the families have lost their farmlands to the flood, they have run short of food to eat. Food is very essential to the body. Without food one cannot think properly and remain focused. Another problem they have is leaving the village to get food. The cost speed boat transportation is high, especially when you have to carry things across.

We want to supply them food items like Garri made from Cassava plant, Palm oil and groundnut oil, Cartons of noodles for the children and other food items that they lack over there.

Education

Due to hardship and a struggle to survive, most parents are not able to enroll their children in school. With more than 100 children currently not attending school, we wish to enroll them as quickly as possible in the only public school there.

Our Plan

The cost of enrolling one child is approximately $50. Which means, if we are to enroll 100 children, we'll need $5,000.

We also plan to supply notebooks, bags, pen and if possible school sandals. 100 notebooks will cost about $50. We will print as many as we can depending on how much we are able to raise. The higher the number of books the lower the cost.

Mosquito Nets

Mosquito is not a friendly insect and it breeds in stagnant water. Help us get as many mosquito nets as possible for families to protect them against mosquito and prevent Malaria. The Children are most vulnerable in such condition.
