The Long Trail to Change

Hello Folks,

     Throughout my career as a social worker I've strived to better the lives of disadvantaged children and families in my community. Helping struggling clients attain the resources they need to become more empowered and self-sufficient has proven to be immensely rewarding. This year I've decided to help better the lives of those who live outside my community, far, far outside my community.

     I've decided to help generate resources for disadvantaged communities in the developing world. In order to do this I'm participating in a 10-day trek on Vermont's Long Trail in order to raise funds to be donated to FINCA (The Foundation for International Community Assistance), a non-profit organization that provides financial services to the world’s lowest-income entrepreneurs so they can create jobs build assets and improve their standard of living. 

     Because salaried or wage-paying jobs are scarce in many developing countries, most citizens earn their livings through self-employment, creating and operating their own tiny enterprises. But without financial services to fuel their productivity, the poor can never grow their micro-enterprises into businesses that help them escape poverty. FINCA aims to ease the suffering caused by poverty and fund sustainable businesses for the world's working poor.

     This is where you come in. If you'd like to be a part of bettering the lives of the world's most disadvantaged people, then I'm hoping you'll consider making a donation toward my $1,500 fundraising goal. Any donation will sincerely be appreciated (no seriously, it will).
