For my MS, PSM program I have to complete two internships. For my first internship this summer I have been in contact with the Painted Dog Conservation and Chishakwe ranch. Both are involved in the conservation, research and education of the African Painted Dog and both are located in Zimbabwe. These wild dogs are critically endangered and only about 3,000 are left. To put into perspective the city of Denver has a population of 600,000. These dogs are extremely social and live in family packs. Poaching brought on by fear rather than facts is one of the leading causes of their declining numbers. My goal is to implement a curriculum for middle school aged children in the local villages to help educate them about the wonders of this disappearing species. I will also gain field research experience and learn how to run an eco-tourism ranch. Not to mention the life lessons and personal growth that comes with international travel and work. I greatly appreciate any support you are willing to spare to help me in reaching this once in a lifetime opportunity. If you have further questions please ask away!
