Christy is the youngest female surfer in 27 years to have the opportunity to represent South Africa at the World Longboard Surfing Championships. At the age of just 16 she showed her talent by winning the open ladies division at the South African Longboard Surfing Champs, earning herself an invite to the World Championships which are to be held in Riyue Bay, Wanning, China from the 19th - 27th January 2018.
Christy started surfing at the age of 6 in Durban, South Africa. She was then invited to surf her first South African Longboard Surfing Champs 5 years later in 2015 where she placed 2nd in the girls under 16 age group, this was to be the start of her competitive career in Longboard Surfing. The following year she managed to accomplish a 1st place in the under 16 girls division. Then in 2017 she took home 1st place in the under 18 girls division, 1st place in the open ladies division and won the title of the best overall surfer for the entire event.
This is a massive opportunity for any individual, but even more so for someone of her age. This event will enable her to not only become a better surfer but also allow her to challenge herself as a person.
All donations will be used to pay for return flights from Durban (South Africa) to Wanning (China), accommodation at the event and food for the duration of the event for Christy.
