Help save Rodney, a 6 yr. old male that was the victim of a home invasion.
His owners left home & intruders broke into their house, shot Rodney 3 times, and ransacked the house, stealing numerous items.
Rodney ran off after being shot, and Hound Hunters was called for help. I met with his owner, we followed the blood trail until it stopped. We continued to search, and I picked up on his blood trail. About a half hour later, we came across Rodney, coming out from behind a house. He was limping, moving slowly, and in obvious pain. We got him into his daddy's car and got him to the emergency vet right away.
After x-rays, it was determined he was shot at least 3 times. One in his front leg, and twice in his abdomen. They were Hollow Point bullets which explode on impact, and there is shrapnel throughout his abdomen. They will keep him overnight, clean the wounds, insert drains for infection and he should go home tomorrow.
That being said, they do not go in to remove the shrapnel, luckily it looks like no major organs were hit. But, there is no way to know a prognosis at this point. It will take time to see how his body reacts to the foreign material.
The estimate for his care is between $5,500 and $7500. After what this family has been through, let's do what we can to atleast take some of this financial burden off of them.
There is an active investigation to find the intruders. Hound Hunters will update with any information, not only on Rodney, but on the investigation.
