Help Save Baby Allen!

Baby Allen Lugo was born on November 14, 2017. At the time of his birth, the doctors pronounced him a healthy boy. However, a week after he was born, his parents noticed that his eyes were yellow in color. They immediately took him to the doctor and were told that he just needed plenty of exposure to the sun. The yellowing of his eyes did not go away. They went on several trips to the doctor and they kept getting the same advice: expose him to sunlight. But his eyes remained yellow. Finally, around 3 months old, his parents were referred to another doctor who ordered a series of tests. It was determined that Baby Allen has Biliary Atresia. Biliary atresia is a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants. When a baby has biliary atresia, bile flow from the liver to the gallbladder is blocked. This causes the bile to be trapped inside the liver, quickly causing damage and scarring of the liver cells (cirrhosis), and eventually liver failure.

Baby Allen's doctor informed his parents that children with his disease usually live no more than six years. Baby Allen needs a liver transplant now. Luckily, his father is a match. But Baby Allen's parents cannot afford the cost of his operation. In the Philippines, the cost to have a liver transplant is between 4-5 million pesos. A cheaper alternative would be to have the operation done in India at P2,000,000. The family cannot afford the operation cost as they are on minimum wage. They do what they can to buy his medication, but they cannot afford the cost to have him operated on in India.
