Hello everyone, Ruffus is a 12-year-old standard dachshund that has been with me for the better part of my entire teen and adulthood. As I am typing this, Ruffus is under palliative care at home and at risk of passing away at any moment as his heart and lungs are progressively being compressed by a buildup of blood fluid.

Last Friday (7th July), we brought Ruffus to our local vet as he was vomiting his meals out with traces of blood in it and was also getting unusually bloated. Our local vet drained out a total of 1 litre of water from his stomach that was accumulating and also found out from the ultrasound that there was also fluid in his heart and lungs. We were then referred from our vet to immediately admit Ruffus to Beecroft Emergency Hospital. Pericardiocentesis was performed during the night by the vets at Beecroft to drain out as much fluid from around the heart as possible. It was then found out that the fluid was blood that was building up in his heart and lungs.

On the morning of Saturday (8th July), recheck was done and it was seen that the blood fluid around his heart was building up again. They also found out that there is a tumor in his spleen. The vets repeated the drainage on our request, and over 450 ml of blood fluid was drained from around the heart and lungs. No CT scan was done as their CT scan personnel wasn't going to be around for a week, but the vets highly suspect the cancer originating from inside the heart and are concerned about it spreading to other parts of the body. The vets told us that it isn't looking really good and estimated he has no more than 24 hours to live. We decided on the night of June 8 to bring him home and place him under palliative care.

Fast forward to the wee hours of Tuesday (July 11) , Ruffus aside from being lethargic is still breathing and doing okay. Seeing him fight for his life and not give up so easily, we want to bring him to Dr Jean Paul Ly from Animal Wellness who's well known for saving terminally ill animals and see if anything can be done. We have already spent an exorbitant amount at both our local vet and Beecroft and currently do not have the financial means to see Dr. Ly. Whatever amount you contribute will go towards the bill for our visit to Animal Wellness.

The campaign's fundraising goal of $20000 is just a rough estimate of the total cost of consultations, medications, CT scan, tumor spleen surgery, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. We will post the invoice of the total cost here once we get it. Whatever remaining excessive funds will be donated to animal shelters in Singapore. Please know from the bottom of our hearts that if you can help in any way so that Ruffus can get the help he needs, my family and I would be eternally grateful for your kindness!

If you would like to contribute a small amount or just prefer doing it through PayNow or PayLah, please feel free to scan my QR code for easier transactions. Don't forget to put in the remarks that you are donating for Ruffus! We will count this in the total amount raised. Thank you so much!

Hi again everyone, I would like to apologize for not providing any updates for quite some time. Ruffus fought and held on to life as best he could, but he ultimately lost the battle against this wretched cancer. He passed away at home in my arms on Monday, July 24th,. . . . .

Hi everyone, I brought Ruffus to see Dr Ly yesterday (July 11). First off, I just want to point out how professional and empathetic Dr Ly was throughout the whole consultation with him. It's really painful to say this but ultimately, there aren't going to be any treatments that are. . . . .

Secured an appointment with Dr Ly!

Update posted by Bryson Thng at 09:51 am

Hi everyone, I have managed to secure an appointment tomorrow (11th July) with Dr Jean Paul Ly from Animal Wellness! It usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to get an appointment with him but by some stroke of luck, a patient of their clinic cancelled their appointment tomorrow, and I
