Help protect a biodiverse ecosystem in danger of disappearing

Design and creation of an nature trail in the tropical dry forest of Taganga, Colombia.

The mountains of Taganga, Santa Marta, on the Colombian Caribbean coast preserve one of the few areas of Tropical Dry Forest in the country. The group Club NaturalistasAves de Taganga, with girls and boys of between 8 and 14 years old from the local community, led by Ursula Cecila Martinez, have been investigating and learning about the biodiversity and importance of the dry forest.

Our goal in building this interpretive trail is for the children of the "Aves de Taganga" Naturalist club to connect more with their natural environment: the dry forest by seeing the names and data on the natural history of trees, birds, etc. and mammals, characteristic of this ecosystem; as well as the description of the ecological interactions found in the forest. In addition, the notices will have photographs of the representative birds of this ecosystem, including the emblematic bird of the group.

The girls and boys of the club will actively participate in the design and construction of the trail, which will be a great source of pride for them once it is finished and will give them more confidence once they begin to guide other groups of visiting children.

If the money raised reaches more than our goal, we would like to construct a bird watching platform to observe the birds, and where we can conduct our classes.
