Reading is the single most important academic skill.
Our teachers at St. Lucas do a wonderful job in their classrooms, and use our library as a resource to expand the students' love of reading.
We run a tight ship at our school, and as such do not have extra budget money to spend on our school library. We have a dedicated staff of volunteer librarians, and very enthusiastic young students, but our library space is in sore need of updating. New-to-us furnishings are needed to accommodate the number of students who visit during story time. Up-to-date nonfiction books are needed to keep our collection relevant. If we meet our fundraising goal, we can even purchase makerspace kits to enable students to invent and create STEM projects.
We Sixers would love to see our little school library blossom into a super-useful space, to foster a ilfelong love of books, and become the ultimate resource it could be for the entire school.
