To the special people that have stopped to read .....thank you so very much already.
Where to begin, not sure as it is the very first time I am doing this as a mum, never expecting that tragedy can happen in an instance.
Camu, my 6-year-old boy was tragically injured two weeks ago when he tried jumping over our front fence. Halfway over the fence his back leg/ paw got stuck and he literally got stuck on the fence, hanging upside down with his full weight (and he is a big boy-;)) and the paw stuck. In his efforts to free himself he fractured and broke his back leg, just above the paw, which for a boy of his size, it is a disastrous injury!
Eventually free'd and in utter shock we could only rush him to the nearest vet office and then hospital the day after, to see if there was to be ANYONE that would help us save our boy. Due to his size and weight, amputation was not an option and the options we were left with was to either put him to sleep (noooooooooooooo) or try to give him a fighting chance by means of an emergency operation. We knew how financially challenging this would be but we gave all we had and just wanted him to LIVE!
Our boy Camu has ALWAYS been there for us as a family, protecting us, loving us and all we knew was that we could not say goodbye to him...not in this way!
Camu has now had his operation and he was now sent home. To avoid any bigger costs, we are taking care of him at home between my mom, my daughter, and myself. Little did we know that the operation and costs would be the least of our worries as we then got faced with the hard fact that his wound changes should best be done at the hospital he was operated!
What this meant was that we had to get Camu to Hermanus three times a week (we don't have a vehicle) plus the cost per wound change is around R804 as he needs to be sedated to be able to clean his wound. Imagine 6 weeks of just wound cleaning costs added also......phew, we are quite numb struck.
As of yet, he has not had fresh wound change since he was sent home and that terrifies us already seeing the condition of the bandage after day 1 at home. Our local animal welfare society KAWS offered so kindly to see if they can cover a wound change for him next week and we are most thankful but still quite dishearted.
This mountain has just become 200 percent bigger and what breaks our hearts is the fact that Camu now lies with a smelly, un-attended wound and there is nothing we can do about it! Defeating the purpose of this beautiful opportunity that we felt he deserved.
Hopelessness must have a bigger word......

I know some people might argue so say, why not just put him "out" if you could not afford it in the first place? What can I say......he is my kid, my baby boy and I am his mom. Don't our kids count on their moms in their hour of need?..
