I’m creating this for a friend who lives in a small, poor village in Cambodia. He can certainly use your donation as life in Cambodia is difficult.Once his goal is reached and he receives the funds I’ll post photos of the renovations for you to see how wisely your donations are being used. Please read his story and thank you.

My name is Raksmey.I was born to a small family in a poor village in Takeo province, Cambodia.I am writing to ask for your donation to assist my single mother of making much needed repairs to our small home.Building a new house in Cambodia is impossible with our money, so much needed repairs will be done to our home. Our roof leaks much water during the long rainy season.I sleep in a hammock outside in the only dry spot available.I’ve managed to save $1,000 over the past few years and am asking for your assistance to raise the remaining $4,500 required for the renovations. Here is the story of my family to describe our dilemma.

In 2005, when I was 13 years old, our family had a small business as a local food vendor serving Cambodian porridge for breakfast as well as snacks such as fried bananas and fried sweet potatoes. The money earned was enough for our family to survive. That year my stepfather left our family.Being a very proud and hard working single mother, she left my little sister and I in the village to travel to Thailand to work in a factory to support us, as many Cambodians do.My mother would send money back home so that we could eat.

Two years later at 15, I would have also had to leave home to seek work to help my family, but my mother left her job in Thailand to come back home. She told me how difficult the factory work was and that I would remain in school and attend the University so that life would be better for us.I received a scholarship, we made it work, and I have now graduated from the University.I have a degree in Tourism Management at the Royal University or Phnom Penh and live in the capital city of Phnom Penh offering tours of the city to visitors to earn a little extra to support my family. Here is the site for my company: Likeable Tours http://thelikeabletours.com/

As I stated, I’ve saved $1,000 over the past few years, but I would like your assistance to get the repairs done sooner, before the damage to the house gets beyond repair and my mother and sister become homeless.

If you are able to offer any amount and share this posting with your network of friends it is immensely appreciated.I can be contacted if you have any question. I will be posting photos of the work being done so that you can see how well your donations are spent.
