For those of you who know me well, you may have heard me talk about good friend Stephen in Liberia- who helped make my research project a success! Stephen is one of the brightest people I have met, with a promising future, a renaissance man who is skilled in agriculture, criminal justice, tailoring and karate-among many things! He is also a dear friend, who helped me so much as my guide and translator while I was doing research in Liberia. Now Stephen and his 8-year old daughter are facing the very real threat of Ebola in Liberia, which is increasing each day. Liberia is no longer safe- with hospitals overcrowded and understaffed, a lack of equipment, and people being sent back to their villages with the disease. Infections are rising exponentially, and scientists estimate 90,000 people may be infected by the end of the year. Until broader institutional  help can be set up to combat this crisis, I am trying to help in the small way that I can-by raising up to $800 for two visas and plane tickets for Stephen and his daughter to go to Ghana, where they will be safe. My family and I have already donated $300, and we are hoping to raise another $500: $200 to buy a plane ticket for his daughter, Princess, and  another $300 to help support Stephen and Princess while they are settling in Ghana.  In this horrible crisis, please help two people I care about, by making a small donation. Every dollar helps! You may be thinking-of millions who are in danger, why help just two people? Because we can help save the lives of these two people! They are dear friends of mine, and in a crisis-we protect those we care about. Please help in any small way you can-it means a lot to me! (Also, you may consider adding your donation in place of any birthday present for me , as my birthday is December 5th). Thank you!

  • My Mom was a physician and worked in the field of public health. She rose to Assistant Commissioner of Health in the State of New Jersey. In 1966, the Governor of Maryland requested that she become the first Maryland director of the new Fed program called Medicare /Medicaid. She also had a Masters in Epidemiology from Columbia. The concerns of today are in my consciousness because of her.
