My name is Peggy Chua. My husband collapsed in March this year. He hasn't woken up. Michael had supported us for decades. He was the cornerstone of our family and without him we are lost. His light in the lives of my family was our hope. We weren't blessed with children, but Michael treated my family like his own. He was our strength, and for him to be reduced to this is hell, for him and for me. He suffered a massive stroke, requiring emergency surgery to prevent the swelling of his brain from causing even more damage. He has been in ICU since the stroke, with a tracheostomy to help him breathe.

Michael collapsed on 30st March 2021 and taken to the hospital for investigation. He was found to have a very large right-sided clot in his brain on scans which resulted in severe swelling of his brain and required emergency surgical decompression. This means that part of his skull and some of his dead brain matter that was causing the high pressure. Despite this, his condition remains unstable and his brain pressure had creeped up, needing a second brain surgery on the 2nd of April 2021.

I am a 60 year old woman, who has been working as a part-time cleaner for many years. Before this awful incident, we were living happily in our little HDB flat in Punggol with our cat, Miaomi. We make do with the little income we receive and we were content. We did not have much money as we both come from a humble background. Michael used to work as a Taxi driver where he would help support our house repayments. However, now that he may not return to work and that I will need to be his full-time carer, I am very worried and stressed about our financial situation to support Michael's hospital bills, house repayments and our day to day needs. I love my kind-hearted and ever-loving husband, and I would do anything to support him; I will never give up on him, and I hope he will never give up either.

With a very heavy heart, I am reaching out to you, my family, friends and the goodwill of the public, to help support Michael and I through this very difficult phase of our lives. We will be very happy with any contributions; every little helps.

13th April 2021: He has been stepped down to the stroke unit with a tracheostomy (hole in his windpipe to help him breathe). Michael is still on NG tube feeding as he is still comatosed, but he has managed to open one of his eye on occasion, and I can feel twitches on his fingers. However, he is not verbalizing or responding to us yet. Doctor has said that he will have a very long recovery period due to the size of stroke and damage as a consequence of it. He may not be able to regain any of his cognition or functionality. He will need a very long period of rehabilitation but he may not be able to walk again.

I will be strong, and I will be there, ready for him when he opens his eyes and wakes up. I will be there when he needs me, to feed him and help him with his daily needs.

Thank you so much for your time reading this, and your kind donations. I would appreciate if you can take the trouble to donate via bank transfer to POSB (081) 119-49345-5 under the name Chua Phek Kee, to cut out middle party fees. Alternatively, please transfer directly to Paypal [email protected]. Thank you.

UPDATE: 28th May 2021

Michael is now alert although he is non-verbal at this point and he is not requiring help with his breathing. We are hoping that he will be returning home soon once we have the preparations required of me to care for him at home. I am very thankful for your support, however, please continue to share this link.
