Help Mei’s Dad to live without pain

Hi everyone, I am starting this crowdfunding project to raise funds for my colleague, Mei.

She is a Malaysian working in Singapore for the past 3 years.

Her family lives in Kuala Lumpur and she hasn't seen them for over 2 years due to Covid.

The person we are raising funds for is her Dad.

Her Dad has been wheel-chair bound for the past 5 years due to severe spinal degeneration and compression and his muscles have atrophied resulting in him being skin and bones.

Her Mum is not working and staying at home full-time to look after her Dad.

Mei also has a younger sister who is working in the kitchen earning only enough to support herself.

Thus, she has to come all the way to Singapore alone to work to support her parents because of the stronger currency exchange rate.

She is only earning about SGD4k a month in Singapore but has to remit 70% of her salary home to pay for bills, groceries, her mum's expenses, occasionally her sister's bills when she doesn't have enough, and also most of it to cover her Dad's expensive medications. Stuff like her Dad's diapers and wet wipes already cost SGD1k a month.

A month ago her Dad fell down in the toilet which resulted in severe bleeding on the head, skin tear due to old age, and also internal bleeding on the stomach. Her mum wasn't able to lift him up alone and had to wait for the sister to come home to help.

As Malaysia is facing a wave of covid, public hospitals are facing a shortage of doctors, hence Mei's Dad got sent to a private hospital for emergency care. Her dad was hospitalized for 2 weeks, entering the ICU two times due to internal bleeding on the stomach which requires stapling it back. All in all, the bills racked up alot which Mei has emptied most of her savings to pay for.

Now there is another crisis that she has to face, her dad will require spinal surgery which only 3 doctors in Malaysia are qualified to perform. It cost around SGD25k for the surgery to be performed at a public hospital but the doctor is advising her to have the surgery at a private hospital which will cost double the amount.

The reason being is because, in case of any complications, the public hospital won't have the relevant specialist to attend to her Dad. Based on the SGD25k alone, she will have to go into debt to make sure that her Dad gets the surgery he very much needed to reduce the pain. However, the cost to ensure her Dad gets the best available care is double the amount.

As a colleague, I find the love she has for her family is utmostly admirable to the point that she is willing to sacrifice so much to work alone in Singapore in order to support them. She has told me that if possible, she would like to take all the pain her Dad is facing so that he won't have to suffer.

Mei has missed her family so badly and wanted to go back during the period her Dad was hospitalized. However, the workplace told her that she will need to take a no-pay leave for the trip back. As much as she wants to go back to her family, she also has to continue getting paid in order to pay for all the hospital bills racked up and the upcoming surgery for her Dad.

I am starting this fundraiser to help ease her burden and also for her Dad to receive the medical care he needs to reduce the pain. I hope whoever reading this is able to help generously for a filial daughter to take care of her family.
