Campaign Story
Since the pandemic hit in 2020, I tried focusing on my health to be at my best shape - watched my diet and dedicated time for exercise. Things started to change by June 2022 when I felt something wasn’t right with my health and it needs to be addressed. True enough, after series of tests for almost 2 months, I’ve been diagnosed with Mulitple Myeloma in Aug 2022, a type of bone marrow cancer where most people diagnosed with it are at their 60s. Currently, this type of cancer is INCURABLE but at least treatable. It was hard for me to believe to be diagnosed with a cancer (96.3% plasma cells occupying my bone marrow based on biopsy), and more so, a cancer which affects older population. Full of hope, I stayed positive as I looked forward to the treatment my doctor has planned.
Things didn’t go well at the start of my treatment (Sep 2022). I had adverse reaction which affected my heart, lungs and thyroid. Because of this, my 1st cycle needs to be stopped until I fully recover. Come Oct 2022, we resumed with the treatment with adjustments on the regimen, but with just 2 sessions, the doctors have to stop the treatment again, since it was causing me heart failure. Since my safety is the top priority while the treatment is on-going, my doctors held a multidisciplinary meeting scrapping the old regimen and introduced a new one. The medicines have their pros and cons but the main con for me is the price. Unlike the original regimen (Bortezomib-Lenalidomide-Dexamethasone) , the main medicine for the new regimen is extremely expensive. I have no choice but to proceed with the treatment using this expensive regimen (Nov 2022) (Darzalex-Cyclophosphamide-Dexamethasone) .
Fast forward to Feb 2023, I have completed 4 cycles and I now feel better - can walk, talk and eat without shortness of breath, no more bone pains, eyes no longer drooping, and no feeling of fatigue or weakness (but with occasional palpitations). The expensive regimen is worth it but it worries me because the cost is not sustainable. I had my 2nd biopsy in Feb 2023 which shows a partial response only on my treatment. My doctor advised to have 3 more cycles, then repeat the biopsy. If the results are good, I can proceed with bone marrow transplant. At the onset of my treatment, I was already advised that it is highly recommended to have a bone marrow transplant after completing some number of chemotherapy sessions to increase one’s survival rate.
With the high cost of my medications, treatment, and regular labtests, my funds are running low, millions have been spent, and millions more to go. With this I’m humbly seeking for your generous assistance to help me fund my on-going treatment and eventually, undergo bone marrow transplant.

Bone Marrow Transplat
Update posted by Zarah Miclat at 04:59 amMy current labtests and procedures are showing favorable results. I've started maintenance meds about a week ago. I still have 1 more test - the Minimal Residual disease or MRD which will be done in a month or so in Taiwan since it is not available in the Phils. This. . . . .
Hairfall is real

True enough, 2 weeks after the chemo, I started noticing hairfall which was not the usual hairfall I had before. As. . . . .

Update posted by Zarah Miclat at 04:28 pmToday is day 1 of my 14 days of admission for harvesting of stem cells (hopefully it will only be 14 days). Bloodworks, and Chest xray completed for the day. My doctor said all are good except for WBC which is at 18k!!! She suspects it is due to the
End of Chemo
Update posted by Zarah Miclat at 05:01 amWith the recent development on my employment, I've opted to look for alternatives for my treatment to maximize my funds. My new doctor laid down options for my treatment which includes having the transplant at an earlier time compared to what has been previously set. This means I'm able to. . . . .
