My name is David James Magliolo.
I am raising funds to trainand work as a care-giver to provide my Mother and Sister with care and medical support they require with their chronic medical problems .
My Mother suffers from various crippling health problems. She is in pain all the time due to the following medical problems:
Severe, chronic arthritis all over her body. She is in constant agony and needs, among others, knee replacement surgery. She can’t walk properly and can feel her knee moving out of its socket when she tries to walk.
This has reduced her mobility severely and the agony exhausts her but prevents her from sleeping. She says she can feel the knee bones grinding when trying to walk.
My Mum was told both knees should be replaced but one is worse than the other. She has fallen several times. She was born with scoliosis,Her skew spine has caused terrible neck/back/body arthritis which makes her have to wear a neck brace.
.My Mother was informed that she requires weekly physiotherapy just to help her manage the pain. Her last physiotherapy session was years ago.No medication can take her pain away. These medical problems in addition to the problems written below prevent her from leading any normal life. She was informed that many of these problems she just must live with and ‘they will only get worse over time’Her heart attack caused her to require chronic medication which we can’t afford, and she has run out of it.Her last heart checkup was in 2015.My Mother was diagnosed with ME/Chronic fatigue syndrome. She is on anti-depressants which have run out.She has started fainting on a frequent basisMy Mother suffers from angina every day which concerns me she will have another heart attack.
My mother has high blood pressure which frequently requires checks. She is sick daily due to the stress placed on us
My sister Alexandra has the following health problems:
A rheumatologist diagnosed her withupper body weakness which limits her mobility.Alexandra has undiagnosed problems which leave her in pain
I need to start this career as soon as possible to enable me to support my Mother and Sister.
My Mum had a heart attack in January 2015. I was fortunately able to get her to hospital and her life was saved.
In 2014, I had received my A level Cambridge University exemption. I applied and was accepted to study a BSC Mathematics and Physics at the University of South Africa (UNISA). I registered as a student mid-January 2015, in the hopes that I could provide a better life for us.
I supported her with the divorce proceedings, cared for her chronic medical problems, helped manage our family affairs, support.I obtained my driver’s license.I managed to obtain high assignment and exam marks and several distinctions (Mathematics, Calculus A and Calculus B).
I completed as many UNISA modules as I could . I started tutoring mathematics privately in Hout Bay to try to support my Mother and Sister
I was forced to defer my studies, weeks before my second year October/November exams, because our house was in the process of being repossessed by the bank due to my Father’s default of their divorce decree.
I have been working as a mathematics tutor in Hout Bay over the last two years to support my Mother and Sister. The Corona virus has made me lose my clients.
The skills obtained from this career will enable me to support and care for my Mother and her chronic health problems.
This campaign will enable me to seek employment which will enable us in to leave Hout Bay. We can’t afford to live in or leave Hout Bay
How will funds be used?
To begin a career to as a caregiver I require the following:
A criminal database check required for caregiving
One-way ticket to the UK to train and start work at care giving agency
Money to support myself while I await placement and complete training
new spectacles/eye test

Any additional funds will be used to provide my Mother and Sister with support.
