I am a South African citizen, who has dreamt of studying fashion her whole life, however there are financial barriers to studying in New York. I wish to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology, which is a premiere public institution in the city of New York. FIT is recognized for their design, fashion, art, communications and business. At FIT I would study fashion design, in order to eventually own my own sustainable brand. I would create a brand using sustainable materials, as the production of clothes is a major pollutant, the labor practices would also be ethical as the employees would be treated correctly and work in safe environments. I have been inspired to pursue this career because of the powerful women who have surrounded me my entire life, the women who have shown me the power of a beautiful garment. I feel that fashion doesn’t own you, but it helps to express your character and your values. My parents cannot afford for me to study in New York as I have three other siblings, who they have to support. I am currently in my final year of studies for high school, and hope that I can move forward to study in New York, in the upcoming years. I have worked hard in school for the past five years, and hope that I can accomplish my dream, and prove that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
