Help me help the children and disabled of Sambodi orphange Sri Lanka

Back in 2009 I worked all my school holidays to raise all the money I could to go to volunteer in a developing country. I chose to volunteer in Galle, Sri Lanka where I knew my help would be much needed in a orphanage and home for the disabled called Sambodi.

I was horrified by what I saw and experienced over the 6 weeks I volunteered there. The staff and volunteers there do all they possibly can to provide practical,long term assistance to disabled people to help them have a better future. However they are very very short on funds and careers to look after the young children.

I spent all I could purchasing basic essentials such as hygiene and medical supplies but as a 18 year old from a hard working family (my mum works in a supermarket and dad a plumber) I ran out of money and couldn't purchase any more supplies.

I worked hard when I was there to teach the children about the importance of washing daily and cleaning their teeth ect which was very rewarding, but I know there is so much more to be done still. I fell in love with many of the children and adults in the home and it breaks my heart to see what poverty they are living in. Disabled children left to entertain themselves with very little, with other children so young but with rotten teeth.

I am looking to return there for 2 weeks later in the year with essential supplies.

I currently work in my local community in Cardiff and will be doing lots of fundraising activites in Cardiff and asking staff to also do all they can to help.

If anyone can spare any amount of money they can to help me get out to Srilanka and help these poor children, I would be very grateful.
