Make it Happen!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Rzn TORBEY, I am Syrian, 30 years old. Passionate about making films and photography, I wish to start my studies in these fields with the SAE Institute in Geneva.

Because of the conflict in Syria, I was forced to flee to Jordan, I lived in Amman 9 months where I worked with two digital marketing agencies. Because of my brother and his family, I came to Switzerland through family reunification in January 2014, and I got the Permit F which I still hold today.

I had the chance to work with the ICRC in Geneva as a consultant in spring 2014, I was in charge of producing documentaries in three languages about the Syrian conflict. Since June 2014, I have been working at the head offices of Nestlé in Vevey as a Digital Communication Specialist.

In addition, I volunteer in several cultural and humanitarian organizations and associations: Coup de Pouce, Elisa-Asile, Essaim d'Accueil, Festival Layalina, THRIVE and the Refugees Cultural Festival.

Recently, I have done my advanced studies at the University of Geneva in
Digital Communication (web expertise and social media). In Syria, I obtained the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in computer science, and the equivalent of a Master in Management Information System.

In Switzerland, I have made a lot of effort to speak French, and to integrate myself into the society. Last year, I attended a conference on integration, here you could watch the video of my speech.

La réalisation de films est depuis toujours mon rêve. Malheureusement en Syrie, il n’y a pas d’études dans la réalisation de films et cinéma. Mais j’ai fait plusieurs vidéos, gratuitement, pour aider des associations ou des amis. Voici quelques exemples :

Filmmaking has always been my dream. Unfortunately, in Syria, I had no chance to study it. But I made several videos, free, to help associations or friends. Here are some examples :

Last 3 years, I have acquired all the all necessary equipment (cameras, drone camera, professional computer, etc.), and I have built my portfolio to be ready to enter this field. In addition, I have several times been lucky that the official Facebook page of the City of Geneva publishes my photos.

Recently, I was looking for a university/institute that could help me to have an official certificate. To do this, the Digital Film Production diploma at SAE in Carouge would be closest to what I am looking for. In addition, these studies will allow me to continue my social and humanitarian activities by making my skills available free of charge to all the associations mentioned in this letter, so that they can help the Syrians, the refugees and the society in general.
