Hello, my name is Seana Steffen, and I am the executive director of the Restorative Leadership Institute (RLI) in Longmont, Colorado. RLI cultivates leadership and enterprise to elevate the quality of life on earth. I am currently writing the book to bring the transformative practices of restorative leadership to the world, and I need your help.

I am raising $35,000 to complete the research, analyze the data, and finish the manuscript that will enable restorative leadership to reach boardrooms, classrooms and daily lives. The Backstory

Restorative Leadership is based on decades of work with communities and three years of research into high-impact, sustainable social enterprises and community initiatives across the globe. Fortunately, more than 25 extraordinary leaders who demonstrate how to benefit people and ecosystems around the world have generously agreed to help me define restorative leadership as a guiding framework so that we can fulfill our untapped potential for leading our communities, organizations and lives.

Her Excellency Gro Harlem Brundtland, chair of the first World Commission on Environment and Development, suggests that restorative leadership starts with "... taking the long view, inspired by our common needs and a clear sense of shared responsibility." Dr. Lin Ostrom, the first woman to win the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2009, described it as "a very exciting project."

Fortunately, Berrett-Koehler Publishers also believes this is a compelling project with an unparalleled collection of contributors and is ready to publish the book on restorative leadership as soon as possible. Who is Seana Steffen?

Seana Lowe Steffen, Ph.D., is the founder and executive director of the Restorative Leadership Institute, a certified B(enefit) Corporation that serves purpose-driven organizations and planet-minded leaders by building capacity and igniting potential.

She formerly served on the faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder as the founding director of INVST Community Studies, where she delivered award-winning educational programs serving the vision of a sustainable and just world. Seana brings over 20 years of experience in leadership education and coaching, strategic consulting and organizational development. Seana’s clients range from grassroots start-ups to Fortune 100 companies from all three sectors, including The Sustainability Consortium, Tostan International, and the National Civilian Community Corps. She has trained and consulted throughout the United States and the world in settings such as Senegal, Mexico, and Rwanda.

Her awards include ETown National Public Radio’s “E-chievement Award” for making a lasting difference in the community and beyond, and Mortar Board’s “Outstanding Professor” award. She also was a nominee for the Ford Foundation “Leadership for a Changing World Award.”

In public service, Seana co-founded Explore Expeditionary Learning School, which received the first Colorado Education Commissioner’s Choice Award for Getting Results, and Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, the first rural regional youth corps in the country and a recipient of White House recognition for positive change in the Southwest.

Dr. Steffen is a participatory action researcher and a published scholar in the fields of education, leadership, sustainability, community development and social change, and holds the distinction of having served on a quick-response national research team following September 11th.
