Help Johan and Connie!

We need your help to raise funds for Johan and Connie van der Mescht!

Johan (70) and Connie (66) are farmers from the Willowmore district.

I can't imagine anyone being in the situation that they are currently in!

Due to the current ongoing drought in their area their finances has taken a huge knock and they've sold quite a few things to keep head above water and to cover their medical expenses.

Johan's wife Connie has been diagnosed with Parkinsons since 1997. In 2005 she had a big operation known as the ''Deep Brain Simulator'' to try and treat her condition. This operation cost R130,000. Since then she's also had to replace three batteries at R60,000 each. In 2015 she had the option of purchasing a rechargeable battery and considering the costs of purchasing a new battery every time, this option seemed more viable. The rechargeable battery costs R145,000. Johan has obtained finance to manage Connie's medical expenses from every avenue possible but unfortunately things took a turn for the worse.

In 2015 Johan needed a knee replacement which came to R22,000 and a few years later he had to get a blood count done. The result from the count was 9.3 and he had to undergo a biopsy of his prostate gland which came to R15,000. The Biopsy's finding was that it was of a cancerous nature and that the prostate needed to be removed.

In the past six months Johan's blood count has risen from 9.3 to 14.40. To give you an idea, a normal healthy persons blood count is normally under 4!

I've given you hard facts of the challenges the van der Meschts are facing. They do not have a medical aid and the government hospital said that they can not help Johan due to his age and also more priority patients on the waiting list. Johan is Connie's main care giver and with all their funds exchausted there is nothing left for them to do but to turn to the public for help.

An operation (which will cure Johan's condition) will cost R100,000.
