Help Inge Fight Brain Cancer

Update posted by Kirsty Anne McGillivray On Nov 23, 2019

Great news! After 22 days in hospital, Inge has been discharged!! It is now two weeks since her brain surgery, and it is such a miracle that she has had no loss of function to any part of her body that the doctors said she might have. This coming week she will be going back to see the medical specialists to get results from a lumbar puncture that was done last week and to discuss future treatment to get rid of the remaining 10% of the tumor that could not get removed. She and her family are incredibly grateful for all the donations and support they have received which are going to help so much with present and future medical bills.

Yesterday (8th November) Inge had her surgery to remove her brain tumor. We are very grateful to God that her surgery went well and that the doctors were able to remove 90% of the tumor. It was a very long and intricate procedure. We are all happy and relieved to hear that she was able to breathe by herself, swallow, talk and feel sensations. These were things the doctors had warned could be affected by the surgery. We are so thankful to God for his protection over Inge. The next few days are crucial for her as her body and brain recover, so please keep her in your prayers. We are still waiting to hear how the remaining 10% of the tumor will be treated. This will involve further costs. Inge and her family are extremely grateful for all of your generous contributions which are going to help them pay for the present and future medical bills.

Inge was taken to Cape Town by ambulance on Thursday 31 Oct and was admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital. An initial surgical procedure to remove fluid on the brain was suddenly cancelled on Friday due to her brain responding well to the cortisone treatment that she was receiving. It was decided to do this procedure together with the main surgery of removing the tumor this coming week. An excellent team of doctors are busy planning this delicate surgery. She is in the High Care unit where she is being monitored closely. She and her family are overwhelmed by people's generosity and greatly appreciate all of the support and donations that have come in.
