Help Off Grid Farm (Spiral Project) in Costa Rica to be completly selfsufficient

Calling all people who wants to protect the environment and support organic farm projects in rural areas in Costa Rica.

As you may all be aware, I started a self-sustaining organic project in 2017. Despite the steady first steps, after year 1 I took a giant leap into self-sustainability by beginning Workaway; allowing travelers from all over the world to help build my dream home in Valle Azul, Costa Rica. I am truly blessed to have met such like-minded, enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers who share my passion for environmentalism. You are my family for life and your contribution will never be forgotten!

Becoming fully sustainable sounds great, but in reality it’s very difficult because of economical issues and struggles! I have so many incredible ideas for the future, but for now I need your generous donations to help with the following please:

1) Water hole, pump and filtering system (approx $800)

Every living thing requires water in order to survive, and its vital for a self-sustainable project to have a good quality of water source integrated. To make a hole in a rocky soil as the one here, I need to hire a digger / backhoe that will remove the heavy giant rocks, and that’s the beginning to connect later with the plumping and filtering system needed to bring it into the kitchen. After the hole is done it will require a shelter for it and the pumping system.

For cleaning I will use rain water.

2) New roofing (approx $800)

The house was built in 2005 with second-hand tin. Since then it has not been painted and being in such rainy areas close to volcanos the roof has significantly deteriorated, letting water leaking into some parts of the house and soon will be urgent to change and paint it. The external kitchen can not function without it. Also some parts of the wood that hold it is rotten and has been eaten by termites!

Besides the house there will be some other structures needing to be built such as; a green house, garden storage area, workshop and animal house. The current tins of the house roof that still can be used will be reused in part of the green house roof or the animal house roof.

I will also need gates and containers in the shower and laundry area to reuse the rainwater.

3) Biodigester (approx $500)

Kitchen organic waste and animal excrements produce gas and organic compost. A biodigestor is a structure that collects and catches that gas for the kitchen, and produces compost for the gardens. An integrated system that I want to build has three main jobs; collecting floor from the animal house, digging a hole for biodigestor, and connecting a bump / pump or pipes system to the house or for storage while I’m not cooking.

4) Greenhouse, seeds storage, organic products workshop and education (approx $400)

This project needs a greenhouse built for somewhere to plant the seeds before they go to the fields. Also an area to store and work the prime basic matters for organic foliar nutrients and repellents for the plants. As well I would like to share agroecology knowledge with my community and guests in the farm (volunteers). So a small area is required to give little workshops in the near future, as an initial trying for a possible environmental and technical education project based in permaculture concept, as this current project is inspired of.

So, I will need to also get more tools, buy seeds, and containers among other items.

After accomlish all of those goals and become selfsuficient and selfsustainable the main idea is to begin evolving the comunity into permaculture and agroecologi trought educational free workshops. Steep by Steep we will make this world a better place to welcome new generations

¡Llamando a todas las personas que quieran apoyar proyectos rurales de caracter ambiental en Costa Rica!

Como todos ustedes saben, comencé un proyecto orgánico autosustentable en 2017. A pesar de los primeros pasos, después del año 1 di un salto gigante hacia la autosustentabilidad al comenzar Workaway; permitiendo que viajeros de todo el mundo den su grano de arena en mi la Granja Spiral en Valle Azul, Costa Rica. Me siento verdaderamente bendecido de haber conocido a voluntarios con ideas afines, entusiastas y trabajadores que comparten mi pasión por el medio ambiente.

Llegar a ser totalmente sostenible suena genial, pero en realidad es muy difícil cuando el dinero es limitado. Tengo muchas ideas para desarrollar en el futuro, pero por ahora necesito su generosa y oportuna donacione para ayudar con lo siguiente, por favor:

1) Pozo de agua, bomba y sistema de filtrado (aproximadamente $ 800)

Todo ser vivo necesita agua para sobrevivir, y es vital para un proyecto autosostenible tener una fuente de agua de buena calidad. Para hacer un pozo en un suelo rocoso como el de aquí, necesito contratar una excavadora / retroexcavadora que elimine las rocas gigantes pesadas, y ese es el comienzo para conectar más tarde con el sistema de relleno y filtrado necesario para llevarlo a la cocina. Una vez hecho el hoyo, se requerirá un techo o rancho para este y paramel sistema de bombeo.

Para la limpieza en la casa captare y utilizaré agua de lluvia. También necesitaré puertas y estañones en la ducha y el área de lavado para reutilizar el agua de lluvia.

2) Techado nuevo (aproximadamente $ 800)

La casa fue construida en 2005 con hojalata de segunda mano. Desde entonces no se ha pintado y al estar en zonas tan lluviosas cerca de los volcanes el techo se ha deteriorado significativamente, dejando que el agua se filtre en algunas partes de la casa y pronto será urgente cambiarla y pintarla. La cocina exterior no puede funcionar sin ella. ¡También algunas partes de la madera que lo sostienen están podridas y han sido devoradas por las termitas!

Además de la casa, habrá que construir otras estructuras como; una casa verde, área de almacenamiento de jardín, taller y casa de animales. Las latas actuales del techo de la casa que aún se pueden usar se reutilizarán en parte construir una bodeguita y del techo de la casa de los animales.

3) Biodigestor (aproximadamente $ 500)

Los desechos orgánicos de la cocina y los excrementos de animales producen gas y abono orgánico. Un biodigestor es una estructura que recolecta y atrapa ese gas para la cocina y produce abono para los jardines. Un sistema integrado que quiero construir tiene tres trabajos principales; recolectar desde el piso del refugio de los animales sus excretas, cavar un hoyo para el biodigestor y conectar un sistema de bombeo / bomba o tuberías a la casa o para almacenarlo mientras no estoy cocinando.

4) Invernadero, almacenamiento de semillas, taller de productos orgánicos y educación (aproximadamente $ 400)

Este proyecto necesita un invernadero construido en algún lugar para plantar las semillas antes de que vayan a los campos. También un área para almacenar y trabajar las materias básicas principales de nutrientes foliares orgánicos y repelentes para las plantas. Además, me gustaría compartir conocimientos sobre agroecología con mi comunidad y los huéspedes de la finca (voluntarios). Por lo tanto, se requiere un área pequeña para dar pequeños talleres en un futuro cercano, como un intento inicial de un posible proyecto de educación ambiental y técnica basado en el concepto de permacultura, como se inspira en este proyecto actual.

Entonces, también necesitaré obtener más herramientas, comprar semillas y contenedores, entre otros artículos.
