Hello, my name is Angela and I have a big ache in my heart for the homeless population. Every day hundreds if not thousands of people find themselves homeless for one reason or another. Trying to find affordable housing is difficult enough; add on substance abuse and/or mental illness and it becomes even harder! I choose Jessie Crawford Recovery Center to raise money for, because they are trying to assist these individuals and/or families in this area of need.
Their vision and mission: "JCRC envisions a community in which every individual in need of treatment and/or sober housing has access to those services. To achieve our goal we must develop one-to-one relationships, community support, and provide assistance to individuals in need so they may develop to their full potential. Our consumers will then be able to make informed and responsible decisions as productive and involved members of the community. They do not limit the length of stay for residents. Our goal is to house individuals in early recovery until such time that they are comfortable with obtaining their own apartment or residence. Another benefit of sober housing is to re-establish or develop a positive and current rental history."
JCRC is fully self sustaining! Donations come in for furnishings and other household items but they don't receive any funding for providing shelter. Even though they talk about providing sober living, they are finding that they are getting more requests for people that are seeking shelter that don't have these issues. Persons coming out of jail, homeless single mothers, homeless families and those with no or limited income. They try not to turn people away and most of the time they don't, but without enough money it becomes a burden on the agency. I really would like to see funds raised so there will be money available to assist people that need some time to get on their feet. The money would assist them with rent, food and personal items; some people come in with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It's going to being getting cold! My goal is $10,000 or more; at $500 per person, It would cost $5000 to get 10 persons off the street, $10,000 for 20, etc.
Please Help...we will be eternally grateful for any donation. Thank you in advance for your generous spirit of giving!
