Emmanuel* is a 23-year-old asylum seeker and single father from Haiti who needs your help! Emmanuel has endured a lot of abuse and neglect in his young life. He recently fled to the U.S. to seek protection after his life was threatened in Haiti. Please consider donating to Emmanuel's fundraiser to help him get out of ICE custody!
As of now, Emmanuel has been in immigration detention for over 8 months, and will stay there if we cannot raise $5,000 to pay his bond.
Emmanuel arrived in the United States in November 2016 in order to escape threats against his life. Upon arriving at the border, he sought protection from immigration authorities because he was afraid of returning to his country. Instead of being welcomed with compassion and support, Emmanuel was immediately arrested and put in immigration detention despite his lack of a criminal record anywhere in the world or any indication that he was dangerous. We need your help to get him out!
Emmanuel is a victim of domestic violence. He grew up watching his alcoholic father abuse his mother on a near-daily basis. After his parents separated, the abuse continued; his step-father began to beat Emmanuel almost every. This abuse endured for years until Emmanuel was able to escape the abuse of his step-father.
However, this was not the end of the violence. Shortly after escaping the violence at home, Emmanuel began receiving threats by estranged family members believed to have ties to the Haitian government. These family members intimidated and threatened Emmanuel to give up his rights to a small parcel of land that he had inherited. Emmanuel refused to submit to these threats but was soon faced with more violence.
One day, Emmanuel was ambushed and chased with a machete. After this frightening encounter, Emmanuel reluctantly fled Haiti and came to the U.S., fearing that his new family-- including his pregnant partner--would be targeted if he stayed. Sadly, Emmanuel’s partner was killed soon after Emmanuel left the country. His now one-year-old daughter is safe, but Emmanuel worries every day that something may happen to her.
Emmanuel needs your help. He has already suffered horrible abuse and continues to suffer every day that he is imprisoned in the United States. We need your help to ensure that he is properly welcomed to the United States. Emmanuel has a family member in the United States, who is willing to house him but does not have the means to post his $5,000 bond. If released from detention, Emmanuel will continue to pursue his asylum claim in the United States and fight to reunite with his daughter as soon as possible.
Emmanuel has a hearing coming up and it would mean so much if he can fight his case from outside detention. His attorneys are gathering evidence for his case but with Emmanuel in jail, he is unable to effectively assist in his own defense. He has not been able to communicate with his loved ones in months and is desperate to know if they are safe.
Thank you for your generosity and compassion in helping Emmanuel get out of detention and helping us fight back against unjust immigration policies. No amount is too small! Please consider sharing widely on social media!

***Please note that there is a 6.9% processing fee on Go Get Funding for any amount raised. This is why our target number is slightly higher than $5,000 in order to ensure we raise the total amount necessary for Emmanuel's bond!
