Help Donia and family reset their life

I, Donia Salamat, my mother, Parveen, brother Rashid, and sister Azeeka, are Christians from Karachi, Pakistan. We are writing to share our story and to seek your support for our resettlement in Hungary as refugees.

Our family suffered persecution in Pakistan. We received several threats of kidnapping and acid violence. As a result, we were afraid to leave the house to attend school and work. Rashid was attacked and badly beaten. He suffered a severe head injury and went into a coma. After regaining consciousness, he lost his memory and ability to walk, talk, and other senses. It took him many months to recover and learn to walk and talk again. Today, he is mostly better, but still, he has problems with his memory.

To escape persecution and violence, we moved to Thailand in 2013 to seek freedom, leaving behind our home, possessions, jobs, school, family, and friends. With broken hearts and hope for freedom, we settled in Thailand as a lifeline. This was the beginning of another chapter of suffering. In 2015, just as we were settling, we were detained at the Immigration Detention Center (IDC). BBC reported our situation, which can be seen via this YouTube link. In 2021, after six (6) years, we were released from IDC under strict bail conditions.

Amid all this suffering, the one thing that has kept us going is our faith in God. Thanks to God, we have survived a beating, leaving our family, and losing our home in Pakistan. Also, we are surrounded by a community of believers who support and encourage us, for which we are grateful.

Today, as we mark ten (10) years in Thailand, there appears to be hope ahead. We have found sponsorship for our family’s resettlement in Hungary in the next 2 months. As part of the resettlement process, we are required to raise USD 20,000. This money will be used to pay the immigration fees, airline tickets, and housing for the first year for our family.
