My name is Musa Khoza, I am in my final year of study in law at the University of the Witwatersrand. I write this letter to you as a request for financial assistance to enable me to complete my legal studies and positively contribute in the legal fraternity.

I am an orphan under the care of my uncle. To summarize my life story, I grew up loving constructive arguments. I made it my long-term goal to join the legal fraternity and do what I am passionate about the most. The more I learnt about it, the more passionate I became. When I heard that the University of the Witwatersrand was offering one of the best curriculum for legal studies in the country, I did my absolute best to meet the criteria for admission.

Initially I applied for the 4-year LLB course at the university. I was informed that the course had been scrapped and if I want to become a fully qualified legal practitioner, I can do a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in law) followed by the 2-year LLB course. After excellently completing my matric I was awarded a bursary to further my studies under the Ekurhuleni Mayoral Tertiary Assistance Fund. The fund enabled me to complete the first phase of my legal studies. In 2018 as per procedure I sent the fund my transcript and I received a correspondence stating that the fund will no longer fund my studies. When I inquired about the reasons for this, I was told that the fund only funds first-time qualifications. I explained to the fund that as a requirement I needed both qualifications to qualify for legal practice. Their response was still the same. In 2018 I managed to register and enroll for my first year of the 2-year LLB program, although I struggled without textbooks, I was able to pass.

This year I am supposed to enroll and complete the remaining courses to qualify for my degree. I am unable to register for the year due to outstanding payments incurred in the year 2019. I was informed that I am required to pay half of the debt before I can be allowed to register. I have tried to get financial assistance to cover this payment to no avail and I am now stranded.

I would like to plea with you to donate any amount to the fundraiser so that I can be able to complete my studies. I cannot be able to cover the required costs for me to register. I would highly appreciate it if you would find a way to assist me regarding my registration as this is what is standing in the way of me completing my studies and being able to play my role in the legal fraternity.

Yours sincerely

Musa khoza
