Hello: I Commit

Hello, my name is Lena Bivins and I am from Chicago. I desperately need your help. Every day my sister and I are putting our lives on the line in our community daily. We live in a poor distress community by choice, but the violence is now getting out of hand, we feel like hostages in our home but we make a sacrifice and put our lives on the line when we go out into our community, doing community work. We created the I Commit that will help us eradicate the issues facing our community, but we need your help spreading the word, this is life or death for us. The systems that are in place are moving too slow or not at all and if we wait on them we will be dead.

I Commit Community Commitment: The charge must be led to organizing the entire community. The Community Commitment will help build the involvement of all residents and stakeholders who have a vested interest in the long haul. The Community Commitment will eradicate issues plaguing our distressed community by attaining a goal of 100% participation of all residents and stakeholders to improving our community for the better. We can only revolutionize the narrative, turn around, change, improve, and enact change in our distressed community when everyone works together collectively for the same goals.

How will we do this? Glad you ask that question. WE Will NOT Reinvent the Wheel, We Will Strengthen The Wheel By organizing Residents, Youth, Church, Faith, Religion, Alderman/Alderwoman, Police Department, Non-Profit Organizations, City Services, City of Chicago, Schools, Landlords, and Businesses. A major issue plaguing poor distressed communities, everyone not working together. I have the ability to create a system for organizing a community. Everyone has an invested interest but does not have to tool, time, education, information, resources to enact change. We will use what already exist but implement a couple of our programs such as, Hello Campaign, Hello Campaign Curriculum, Hello Bike Club, HelloWalk, SpotLight Book, Community Clean Green, I Commit Pledge. We will use technology to implement these programs but also use old fashion door to door and phone calls. The First HelloWalk we reached 375 homes with our SpotLight Book, in the SpotLight Book was community information, voting information, events, and how to get involved. This is a very different approach to dealing with impoverished distressed communities but it is the approach that will work and is working. This approach requires more money than most programs and I need your support. With the 'I Commit" you will see a community turn around.
