Harmony Hill RESCUES beating CORONA 19

I am going,to do this backward and start in the present and backtrack in the hopes I do not bore you to tears.

I have started this fundraising campaign to help our small sanctuary get through the Covid 19 lockdown imposed on us by the government. The lockdown means we are unable to work, and therefore bring in much needed funds which are used for the medical and feeding costs of the animals in our care. Currently we have 89 cats, 9 kittens, 11 puppies and 21 adult dogs looking for homes. This number is increasing daily with people unable to feed themselves let alone their animals.

Penny and I started the sanctuary in 2008 after realising there was a need in our small seaside town for animals who had been abandoned and neglected. They needed to have a safe place to live until the possibility of a home came along. The dogs we have rescued over the years have each left tears of sadness and joy with us, as we nurtured them through their initial ailments and finally helped them find their new family. Dogs have always been a lot easier to home than the cats, as there seems to be a stigma attached to taking on an adult cat. Our kittens find homes relatively easily, but any cat over 7 or 8 months gets overlooked time and time again. For that reason we have a large number of cats who will more than likely live with us for the rest of their natural lives.

In the last 3 years we have become involved with initiatives in our local rural areas, where we have arranged both vaccination and sterilisation drives. These have been very very successful and the community is constantly requesting more and more help for their animals. We try to raise funds separately for these drives with the help of the local vets and our local community. Prior to Covid 19 our aim was to have at least 2 drives this year. We no longer see this happening, instead we are finding the people from the rural areas are asking us to take their animals as they can no longer feed them,

Covid 19 has no discretion it will hurt as many people as it can in so many ways. We ask that you help us to care for the animals who come through our doors, and try and make their lives easier while we all struggle to understand what lays ahead!
