My name is Joanette and I need help with financial relief, for my family; Myself, my husband and Mom & Dad.

In the start of 2020 my parents were living in Bronkhorstspruit and my mom was working in Johannesburg, the driving was killing her and they decided to look for a house in Johannesburg - my father has a petroleum wholesale company and can work from anywhere. They found a perfect house, as it had a 2 bedroom cottage on the property as well so my husband and I decided to move with them, considering that I am busy pursuing my dreams of becoming a teacher & eventually an educational psychologist, we knew that there are plenty of schools where I can become a student teacher or even become a tutor and we had savings which could carry us for a month or so.

We signed the lease agreement and booked the move and then COVID hit and we had to move a day before lockdown. At that point no schools were open nor appointing new teachers, considering that I do not have my degree yet - the online teaching option was a big hurdle, the few online jobs that I managed to do was not enough to shoulder the financial burden.

To try and sum up the events that followed;

  • I struggled to get a job and my husband, as session musician, could not perform any longer, my mother's company stopped paying her and the petroleum orders were also not streaming in. July 2020 - My parents and I decide that we would give it all we got and jump in with my father and run the business as a family business. Things picked up over the coming months and we managed to start filling up the holes and paying our bills again, by that time both households had run out of our savings.
  • Everything was great again and we just started living with a sigh of relief and then the riots, looting, protests, fraud in the industry and fuel prices - struck a big blow to the business and once again we would do our best to get business in as much as we can but make use of the little that we could save up again. We also decided to hold off on paying my studies.
  • By August this year, we couldn't keep up with our lease and debts. Luckily our landlord and rental agency gave us a lot of leniency and we did manage to push a few deals through but unfortunately it was not merely enough. Our electricity was switched of and my father borrowed money from his father to cover those basics and I used my in-laws' credit card (with their knowledge) to buy food and necessities for us - with our sales we at least managed to cover those costs, to ensure that our family would not also fall into debt but we couldn't afford the rent, not even to mention the cost of moving and paying 2 month's rent on a new house.

We have now been placed on terms by the landlord's attorney - considering that we are 3 months behind on rent - and they can evict us at a moment's notice and for the last two months, we couldn't pay back the money to my in-laws which resulted in them also being financially burdened. Our financial situation is at a point where we are selling almost all our possessions, to raise the money we need, but at the moment it is not bringing in enough money. My husband and I have managed to pay some money over to my in-laws with our furniture that we have sold and we are going to move in with them.

My parents however have no where to go, they cannot afford a deposit on a new place or the cost of moving, whilst still keeping the lights on and buying food.

We are at our rope's end and really need a miracle! Any help will be much appreciated.

We are so relieved! With the furniture and appliances that we've sold, we managed to settle our debt towards my In-Laws and my husband and I were to move in with them. :-)
