Gumbo!

This enterprise was founded in 2020 as an unofficial cross-collaboration between students from Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic.

The team was formed in 2019 by 4 students from SP Entrepreneurs Club who shared a passion for driving social change.

We became aware that food waste was a prevailing issue in Singapore and we were passionate to resolve this issue.

We brainstormed an idea to effectively tackle this issue by turning aesthetically unpleasing ingredients into a meal that would be difficult to discern the difference between a meal made from "pretty" and "ugly" ingredients.

We also wanted to provide a meal that can be served much faster than either fast food or hawkers, that can be eaten safely, and yet still be nutritious and tasty.

Hence, we decided to sell our food in the form of liquid-based foods like soups, stews, curries, porridges etc., which are easily served from a food warmer within a very short span of time, at key locations for the convenience of the consumer.

So what we essentially do is that we collect fresh produce that retailers assume are 'unredeemable' before transporting them to our kitchen. Afterwards, we process them into dishes that can be instantly served and easily consumable, which can be accompanied with rice or bread. Our dishes are tailored to serve customers with narrow time windows for eating or those unprepared to deal with long waiting times for the purchase of their meals.
