Guild Cottage

Located in Parktown West Johannesburg, Guild Cottage is a safe haven for girls who have been victims of gender based violence. The girls are brought to Guild Cottage by the social development system and the courts to remove them from the environment that has caused them harm, and that more often the perpetrators of the hideous crimes are known to the girls and communities. When at Guild, the girls undergo therapy that helps them process what happened to them. We also find the girls schools in our neighbourhood. Because of the emotional trauma that the girls bring into the programme, we often find ourselves in need of additional support, be it schooling, psychological and basically all that is available to help the girls lead a normal life. The girls reside at Guild for a period of 2 - 4 years, which is the necessary time period to help them move forward. After this the girls are reunified with their parents if it is safe to do so.
