On June 3rd, Volcan de Fuego erupted in Guatemala. It has destroyed towns and the current death toll is 109 people, but is sure to rise as first responders search the areas that have been devastated. Hundreds of families are homeless without any of their personal belongings, and where they once lived will be uninhabitable for the foreseeable future.
As many of you may know, I spent 7 months in Guatemala over the past couple of years. While there, I lived with Guatemalan families and developed strong relationships with Guatemalan people whom I now consider friends and family for life. While it has been heartbreaking to see the destruction that this eruption caused, it has been inspiring to hear stories of Guatemalan families, many of whom have very limited resources, generously donating anything they can in order to help.
Guatemala holds such a special place in my heart and I want to do something to help. I organized this fundraising page because I'm hesitant to donate to big organizations as I never really know where the money will be going. My plan is to make sure that any money that is donated to this campaign gets delivered directly to the families that have been affected. I have several contacts in Guatemala close to the affected area that have agreed to help make this happen. Anything you can give, even if it's just a few dollars, will help.
