Grandma’s Headstone

Time is...

Too slow for those wait,

Too swift for those who fear,

Too long for those who grieve,

Too short for those who rejoice,

But for those who love,

Time is eternity.  

A few days after Grandma passed away, we found this quote, clipped from a 20-year-old newspaper. It was tucked away in one of her many boxes of photographs. With six children, eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, you can imagine the memories that were captured and treasured....so many pictures! This quote could not be more true; Grandma really did love. She loved without limits, without judgement, without asking for anything in return. Time is eternity for her. 

Grandma Beverley passed away suddenly on April 17th, at only 69 years-old. Like many other elders on social assistance, she did not have the means to set aside funds for life insurance. The modest allowance that the government granted in her passing, barely covered the cost of a casket rental. As a result, our parents; our aunts and uncles, were unexpectely faced with the burden of funeral expenses. Everyone agreed that a headstone will have to wait for a little while. After paying for Grandma's service and burial, there simply isn't enough money for one at the moment.

Mother's Day is this coming Sunday; we can't imagine how difficult it will be for our moms this year. We know they are hurting; we know that they wish they had just one more day to celebrate with our Grandma..."Time is too long for those who grieve".

We would like to do something for our our moms, for our grandma - we would like to buy a headstone. We want to lift some of the burden that our family is feeling and to give back to the women who have given us so much.

Financially, we need a little help.

Grandma's birthday is August 13th, she would have been 70 this year. She never asked for gifts, only time with family. This year, we'd like to be able to give her one last gift.
