GOODBYE BUDDY: A student film project

"GOODBYE BUDDY" is a student drama film about animal rights, and the importance of caring for animals.

Logline:

A newly-hired veterinarian has to put down a dog who has helped him get over his parents’ death.

Synopsis:

An amateur veterinarian named Andy, on his first day, receives a task to euthanize a sickly dog named Buddy, by a grief-stricken man named Markus. However, due to an unforeseen circumstance, Andy realises his connection to Buddy and brings him home. With Buddy’s remaining time, they spend the next few days together happily and meaningfully, helping one another to realise their inevitable fate and conquer their deepest regrets.

Why are we making this film?

We are making this film to question the authority we have on deciding whether it is right or wrong to end out pet’s life with euthanasia.

We want to show the hardships veterinarians go through on a day to day basis and how it puts an emotional toll onto them. To them, dealing with death has turned into a normal occurrence of which they have to deal with and uphold the responsibility of. This causes them to feel emotionally responsible for the deaths of many pets, especially those that they can’t save.

The reason why we want to create this film is that we want to show a tear jerker that not only moves people but inspires them. We want to raise issues that would leave them debating on the topics we address.

Film Inspiration

As inspiration, we took up Hachiko and Marley and Me’s style of storytelling. However instead of having the story told from the owner’s perspective, we want it to be from a veterinarian’s point of view. We believe that the veterinarian’s side of the story is often dismissed and we want to shed light onto this perception. As part of our film’s tribute to these people, we would like to express our appreciation to them as they work tirelessly to bring our pets home healthy.
