Hello friends and family!
While at a retreat a few weeks ago, I was informed that I ‘d be doing myself a disservice by not reaching out to my network to ask for help. So here I am, taking that advice and applying it to my practice. As you may know, I’ll be starting school this upcoming fall at Maryland Institute College of the Arts. I am extremely proud to say that out of 300+ applicants, I am 1 of 6 students accepted into the Hoffberger Graduate program this year. Hoffberger is the only program in the United States that only focuses on painting. This is a huge deal to me as I will be the first in my family to attend college with the purpose of receiving a Masters degree, and I don’t take it lightly. I plan to devote the next two years of my life buried in the studio, growing as a painter.
As most may already know, I’m a self-taught artist with God-given abilities. I never attended so much as an art class, let alone a school centered around the arts. So, needless to say this is going to be a challenge for me, but I know with your support I will succeed. I would be more than happy if you could assist me along my journey of becoming a master painter!
With that being said, my tuition letter states that on average grad students need about $3,500 to pay for books, equipment etc. I’m asking for donations to help me cover that cost which would help pay for things like paint; ranging anywhere from $27-$46 a tube, canvas rolls which can be purchased for around $70+, wood for stretchers, which I can purchase from Home Depot as well as other miscellaneous items. Also, paint brushes and other necessary mediums as a result of me using oil as my paint of choice. (Side note, if anyone has in excess old rags, towels or cloth that you’d like to get rid of, please let me know. I can make great use of them. I’ll even pick them up!) I would also love to get a Mac book. I’ve had the same Dell laptop (purchased by my lovely wife Sheila) for 11 years now and I’m in need of something more updated and durable. In no way am I asking anyone to purchase one for me, but if anyone knows of a place that has affordable Mac books, please keep me in the loop. Last but most important, your prayers. Pray for guidance, pray for wisdom, discernment, confidence, mental strength, courage and perseverance.
I greatly appreciate you.
With love, Jerrell Gibbs
