Campaign Story
Neonatal mortality rate (NMR) defined as death within the first 28 days of life reported per 1000 live births is the highest in low and middle income countries (LMIC). Annually 3 million neonatal deaths occur with greater than 95% occurring in LMICs. SUNY Downstate Pediatric Residents are joining the global effort to lower the neonatal mortality rates by volunteering to teach delivery room resuscitation principles. Participation in this ongoing health mission will enable the next generation of pediatricians to care for the underserved and address disparities in health. Funds collected will go towards:
1. Equipment e.g. delivery room resuscitation, neonatal resuscitation program textbooks
2. Developing cost effective transport solutions for newborns
3. Resident/fellow cost of travel
