My name is Liza Boonzaaier and I have been given the amazing opportunity to be apart of the 2020 Global Goals Model United Nations which will take place in Bangkok from the 24th to the 27th of July. On the 13th of February I received the news that I am a fixed delegate.
At the conference youth leaders from all around the world will come together to discus the Sustainable Development Goals that the United Nations want to achieve by 2030. We will work together in teams of different cultures and backgrounds, to combine our ideas and opinions to contribute to the outcome of these goals. Each of us will be assigned a country, as well as a council which we will have to represent.
The council I have received is UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council), and my country is the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo). Thus I will have to find innovative means together with my assigned team to improve issues regarding human rights in the Congo.
The best way for me to fully address the issues regarding human rights that the Congo is facing and to understand how external and internal factors are having an impact, would be to travel to the Congo before the Global Goals MUN conference to experience it first hand. This will enable be to have a better understanding of the problems they are currently facing and to find the best possible solutions for these issues.
Please help me to go to the Congo so that I can capture and understand the struggles of the Congolese people, so that I can fulfill my duty in addressing the human rights issues they are still facing today, and to find sustainable development methods to improve the lives of these beautiful people.
